Slide 1 — What is Ledger Live?
Overview
Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile companion app for Ledger hardware wallets. It lets you create and manage accounts, view balances across many cryptocurrencies, send and receive funds, swap tokens, stake supported assets, and keep your device firmware up to date.
Why use Ledger Live?
- Centralised view of your on-device accounts.
- Built-in integrations for buy/swap/stake options.
- Secure firmware updates and app management.
Slide 2 — Before you start
Checklist
- Have your Ledger hardware wallet (e.g., Nano S Plus, Nano X, Stax) ready.
- Do not share your recovery phrase with anyone — Ledger will never ask for it.
- Download Ledger Live only from the official Ledger site and verify signatures if you prefer extra security.
Quick tip
If you prefer additional verification, compare the downloaded file's signature/hash against Ledger's published signatures.
Slide 3 — Download & install
Steps (desktop)
- Open Ledger Live download page and choose your OS.
- Run the installer and follow on-screen prompts.
- When prompted, connect and unlock your Ledger hardware device using its PIN.
Mobile
Ledger Live is available on iOS and Android — install from the official app stores or use ledger.com links for direct references.
Slide 4 — First run: set up or restore
Create a new device vs restore
Ledger Live guides you to either set up a new Ledger device (generating a new recovery phrase on the device itself) or restore an existing device from a recovery phrase. Remember: never enter your recovery phrase into your computer or phone — only on the Ledger device when requested during device setup.
Onboarding flow
- Click Get started in Ledger Live.
- Select your device model and follow the device prompts.
- Choose a PIN and securely store the recovery phrase given on the device.
Slide 5 — Adding accounts & apps
Install coin apps on your device
Use Ledger Live's Manager to install apps (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) to the device. Then add accounts in Ledger Live to view balances and transaction history.
Best practices
- Install only the apps you need (device storage is finite).
- Keep firmware and Ledger Live updated to benefit from security patches and new features.
Slide 6 — Sending & receiving
How to receive crypto
- Open the desired account in Ledger Live.
- Click Receive, connect your device and open the corresponding app on device to confirm the address.
- Copy the address shown on your device (always verify on-screen).
How to send
Click Send in Ledger Live, enter the destination address and amount, then confirm the transaction details on your Ledger device before approving.
Slide 7 — Extra features
Swap, Buy, and Stake
Ledger Live integrates swap providers, on-ramps (buy), and some staking services — availability may depend on region and asset support.
Portfolio & Security
Ledger Live provides a consolidated portfolio view and lets you configure settings like currency, display options, and privacy preferences.
Slide 8 — Keeping secure
Security reminders
- Never enter your 24-word recovery phrase into software — only into your hardware device during setup.
- Download Ledger Live only from official sources and verify installer signatures if desired.
- Be wary of phishing sites and fake apps; Ledger communication will never ask you for your seed phrase.
Slide 9 — Troubleshooting & updates
Where to get help
Ledger's support center and release notes explain common issues, firmware updates, and Ledger Live release changes. If something seems suspicious (unexpected prompts for a seed phrase or fake installers), stop and check official support channels.
